Surveying Regional Architecture
Dahr Al Souwan, Lebanon
Surveying entailed the deep analysis of a Lebanese heritage site It was a demanding an vigorous experience which required that we visit a house in the town of “Dahr El Souwan” and do a full study of the area, and then more specifically an assigned house. The Dahdouh house was built in 1906, and underwent several renovations over the years, our challenge was to discover these renovations and break down the house into its components then draw sections, plans, and elevations with the fullest details possible. The bigger challenge was to be as faithful as we could to the original building, and as accurate as possible seeing as all these drawings were to be done by hand, then inked technically. We also had to draw specific details, which gave information about the nature of the house, its history, and its heritage. We also con- ducted studies to understand the whole town and how it developed throughout the years, along with the turbulent history of Lebanon.
